The Creative Power of God’s Word | The Empowered Life of Prayer

Genesis 1:1-31 describes the creation of the universe and it is particularly interesting to note that it was by “FIAT” that God created.  The word “fiat” means to “Rule by the absolute power and authority of your decree or pronouncement.” God spoke and the creation formed. His words translated, “Let there be…” are the “Fiat” of God and anything which followed His pronouncement was immediately formed.

The Hebrew word, “YeHi” is a form of the divine name YHWH.  The divine name is translated, “I AM” and can be interpreted to mean, “I AM Life”.  It follows that the power of YHWH is transmitted in the creative act through His Word as He speaks, “YeHi”.  This Word is the creative power of God.  It is the source of our origins and we are remade by the power of the Creative Word of God in Salvation.

This is important because we have been given the Word of God in written form and it is the recorded expression of God’s “YeHi”. It inhabits the Scripture for the disciple who studies and meditates on the Word.   We are taught and reminded of the Wisdom in God’s word in the first division of the Psalms as we are instructed,

"1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, in His law he meditates day and night."

God tells us that we must find pleasure in studying His Word and keeping it before us day and night.  The result of a life lived in study and meditation is Blessing, because we have chosen the wise counsel of His Word for our lives.  We can discover that God’s Wisdom is good for us and will keep us moving in the right direction regardless of the challenges and struggles we create for ourselves or face because of others.

The Study of God’s Word produces a life of blessing for the believer.  We are promised that the believer who delights in the Law of God and meditates upon it will have firmly established roots and constant connection to the source of life.  The firmly planted disciple will not wither under the heat of trial or wilt under the freezing circumstances of drought that every life experiences.  Rather the person who is firmly rooted in the Word of God is able to stand against great tragedy, trial and trouble.

Jesus promises this in the Gospel according to Matthew 7:24&25as He says,

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” (NKJV)

The Word of God establishes or solidifies a foundation for those who study it and meditate upon it. We know the Word of God and therefore we are not shaken.  We know the Word of God and the Holy Spirit comforts us through our knowledge.

Believers who have not studied or meditated upon the Word are weakened and fragile.  More importantly, they are vulnerable to the lies and confusion spread about God by the enemy.  We are made wise and strong by virtue of our knowledge of God’s Word and its Creative Power which flows from it into our lives as we study and meditate.

Genesis 15:4 records that the

“Word of the Lord came to him, (Abram)”

We hear this phrase repeated throughout Scripture.  We see in this truth that the Word of God must come to you if you are to experience it.  There is nothing in us that makes the Word of God powerful or more effective.  Our intellect and knowledge mean nothing until and unless God intends to send His Word to us, then we can understand His will and desire for our lives.
